Ancient India - Kangra Kingdom - Singar (?) Chandra Deva - ca. late 1400's A.D. (technically, this makes it more medieval than ancient).

Not very much is known about this mysterious kingdom or its rulers.  Some of the coins from this dynasty are difficult to place to a specific ruler (see:  Coins of the Katoch Rulers of Kangra, a fairly scarce but definitive book on the subject).  The exact dates of reign are not even known with certainty in most cases.

These coins were from western Himachal Pradesh, a region of northwestern India at the foothills of the Himalayas... one of the world's most mystery-shrouded places.

This particular specimen has exceptionally sharp lettering (in Sanskrit) and a very well-defined horseman.  Kangra coins are really not common, and it's uncertain how many more will surface on the market.  The ones that are there are usually in nowhere near as good a state of detail as this one.
