Books & Ephemera for sale
Shipping for Books:
although it is possible to ship via Media Mail and save some
money, we recommend Priority Mail (with insurance) or UPS Ground when
shipping collectible or rare books. If you would still prefer
your books be shipped via Media Mail, please contact us.
If you order multiple books (or any other item, for that matter) and your
calculated shipping is significantly higher than the actual cost, we will
refund the difference.
Return Policy for Books:
Early books tend to be fragile and must be
handled with special care; unless we neglected some crucial
feature in a book's description
(e.g., pages obviously torn out, binding coming apart), we don't do
refunds / returns on antiquarian books. In other words, refund /
return is granted only in the event we failed to mention some important
feature.
Therefore, please study the pictures carefully and ask any questions
before making your purchase. For cases that do qualify for
refund, book must arrive back to us in the same condition in which we
shipped it. Buyer is responsible for return shipping.

Collier
on the Stage - and Answers.
A Short View of the Immorality and Profaneness of the English
Stage: Together With the Sense of Antiquity Upon This
Argument.
By Jeremy Collier, M.A. Third Edition. London, 1698.
Original boards and pages; some are loose, but all appear to be
present. The binding overall is good, with some looseness showing in
the middle portion.
This specimen is in a good state of preservation, considering it's
more than 300 years old.
Note that the first (and possibly the second) edition of this work was
printed as a pamphlet, not a bound book. The only other,
"of-the-period" copies of the third edition we've seen have been
re-bound or re-worked in
some way. The one we have for sale here appears to be in original
condition.
There is definitely some interesting reading to be had in this
book. Here is a passage that typefies the subject matter:
...............................................................................................
"In his 1st. Book de consensu
Evangelistarium, He answers an objection of the Heathens, and comes up to the Case
in Hand.
'Their Complaint as if the Times were less
happy since the Appearance of Christianity is very unreasonable.
Let them read their own Philosophers: There they'll find those
very Things censured, which they now are so uneasy to part with;
This Remark must shut up their Mouths, and convince them of the
Excellency of our Religion. For pray what Satisfactions have they
lost? None that I know of, excepting Licentious ones, which they
abused to the Dishonour of their Creator. But it may be the Times
are bad because the Theatres
are Tumbling almost every where. The Theaters
those Cages of Uncleaness,
and publick Schools of Debauchery.-- And what's the Reason of their
running to Ruine? Why, 'tis the Reformation of the Age:
'Tis because those Lewd Practices are out of Fashion..."
...............................................................................................
The Rev. Mr. Collier's work gained notoriety that
lasted for many years. The book even has fame unto this day. Of
course, some of what they regarded as scandalous and lewd in 1698 would
pass by uncommented today.

UFO
book assortment - four books for one money!
Above Top Secret by Timothy
Good. Softcover. 8vo. Quill / William Morrow, 1988. Some pages have
highlighting / underlining. A classic UFO book. The letter from Barry
Goldwater in the beginning states that the US Air Force's UFO files are
in fact classified above Top Secret.
Behind the Flying Saucers, by
Frank Scully. Hardcover (1st edition). Henry Holt, 1950. 8vo, VG, no
dust jacket.
This was the UFO best-seller
in its time. Essential for any UFO enthusiast's library. The 1950
hardcover edition is uncommon nowadays and typically goes for $15 to
$30.
How to Build a Flying Saucer
and Other Proposals of Speculative Engineering - by T.B. Pawlicki.
Don't expect relativity equations and detailed blueprints here; the
emphasis is on "speculative". The book delves into hyperspace drive,
antigravity engines, time travel, the writings of Velikovsky, and
Oriental mysticism. Highly interesting, Donnie Darko-esque stuff.
Lost Journals of Nikola Tesla -
by Tim Swartz. Global Communications, New Brunswick, NJ; no date.
Softcover, 8vo. Interesting stuff. Some of it is highly plausible,
while some treads very speculative ground. Exc. to almost-new condition, with slightest signs
of use.
